Treating Diabetes: Clinical Guidelines and Benefit Design
Like many chronic conditions, type 2 diabetes and its management are complicated. With multiple (and evolving) clinical guidelines available, it can be difficult for providers and patients alike to understand the best treatment options. Cost is also a concern, with diabetes drugs now falling in the top 10 spend categories for many employer-sponsored plans. In response to the expense, some patients have turned to rationing or non-adherence, a life-threatening decision that has become central to diabetes medication debate on a national level. So what can employers do to improve these outcomes for their workforce?

For this BHC Pharmacy Meeting, we welcome Natalie McCorkle, PharmD, Senior Medical Liaison – Diabetes, for Novo Nordisk to offer clarity around the clinical guidelines and medication classes for treating diabetes, as well as special considerations given patient background and co-morbidities. Following this overview, Seth Friedman, National Pharmacy Practice Leader, Arthur J. Gallagher, will discuss benefit and well-being strategies for employers to consider in enhancing employees’ accessibility to and engagement with diabetes care options for today and tomorrow.
